Thomas Alexander were appointed for the role of lead design manager under the main contractor to assist in the delivery of a £9m student housing scheme for IQ.
The project involved a 2-storey zinc-clad extension to a 14-storey tower which included student accommodation, a social hub and leisure facilities.
A ground floor extension with a large sedum roof, provided a new coffee lounge, meeting spaces and a study area.
We were responsible for reviewing the lead architect’s information to confirm compliance with regulatory requirements and ensure the entire design team information was fully coordinated.
Our scope also included a desktop study to identify areas for value engineering without compromising the quality of the project.
One of Thomas Alexander’s main roles was to meticulously coordinate the specialist sub-contractors design for all external wall elements including cladding rain-screen systems, curtain-walling and flat roofing.
